Regulating

From simple action repairs and sticky keys to complete parts replacement and rebuilding, we have the skills, experience, and proper equipment to do the job right. With over 9,000 parts in a modern piano, adjusting spring tension, aligning components, and applying the right lubrication is essential.

A piano that isn't properly regulated can be frustrating and may prevent you from playing your best or playing at all.

Often, it's the piano — not the player — that’s the problem.

Minor regulation can be done in the home, however more extensive regulating should be done at our shop, depending on the needs of your action. If the action is already being brought to the shop for repairs, regulation is always necessary, as it ensures proper playability and prevents future issues. Regulation should be done more frequently, depending on the level of use your piano receives.

Ask your trained professional piano technician about regulating at your next tuning.

Touch Weight

Action regulation and correct touch weight make your piano a joy to play. This science and art requires both knowledge and skill for proper adjustment. Having the correct weight for the piano action is crucial to being able to enjoy the instrument instead of fighting with it. A heavy touch makes certain musical passages impossible to play correctly.

Quite often it is the piano and not the pianist that is the problem.

Touch weight is recommended to do only in the shop.

Ask your trained professional piano technician about the touch weight at your next tuning.

Voicing

Voicing is the last step in creating a beautiful rich sound out of most pianos. It is the art of skillfully regulating the piano to reach it's full musical potential.

After the piano is restrung,  tuned and regulated properly the piano is ready for this final step.

The procedures vary from piano to piano but always include the hammer felt and the way it reacts with a piano.

A piano hammer that is too hard will have a harsh tone and bring out high end harmonics that are not pleasing to hear.

A hammer that is too soft will seem muffled or dead sounding. A properly voiced piano should be able to strike a balance between the two.

Minor voicing can be done in the home or in the shop depending on what is needed.

Ask your trained professional piano technician about voicing at your next tuning.
