Curious about how not to move a piano?

Check out this classic, hilarious scene from Laurel & Hardy for some laughs on why you shouldn’t move a piano yourself — or even have furniture movers move it for you.

It’s dangerous, and pianos are NOT furniture. These pianos can weigh over 700 lbs! WE DO NOT RECOMMEND DOING THIS, as it can cause injury to both you and the piano, and could potentially damage your surroundings. It’s definitely worth every penny to hire a licensed and insured piano mover who specializes in moving pianos. It's a very unique process.

FAQ

does a piano need to be tuned after a move?

Yes, while pianos are built to withstand heavy usage and extreme string tension, the climate change during a move is what can affect tuning. The soundboard’s shape changes with humidity, which alters string tension. So, even a short move can lead to tuning issues once the piano acclimates to a new environment.

Should I hire a piano mover or can a furniture mover or I do it to save money?

Yes! You should always hire a professional piano mover, not a furniture mover who claims they can move a piano. They often lack the necessary expertise and tools, and while a furniture mover might offer a cheaper rate, you'll likely end up paying more for repairs in the long run. There's always a risk of damage or injury if the piano isn't moved correctly. Pianos are heavy, delicate instruments that require the specialized care of professional piano movers.

do you offer storage for pianos?

Yes, we will move your piano, disassemble it, and carefully transport it to a climate-controlled space for a rental fee. When you're ready to receive your piano again, we will reassemble it with care, whether it’s due to house construction, home projects that may affect the piano, or if your piano is in need of restoration.
